One of our goals at Consortiumnews.com has been to give our readers the insights of former U.S. intelligence analysts who are now outside the system, partly because they told unwelcome truths when they were inside.
From their decades of experience, these analysts from the CIA and other intelligence agencies have become skilled at seeing through the propaganda and disinformation that so often passes for political discourse in modern Washington.
That's why it's so valuable to get the perspectives of CIA veterans like Ray McGovern and Peter Dickson. Or learn from the field savvy of former FBI agent Coleen Rowley, a hero of the 9/11 investigation, and Army intelligence analyst Sam Provance, a whistleblower on the Abu Ghraib prison abuses.
We also highlight the published works of courageous intelligence analysts, like Mel Goodman. (And we let Web sites across the Internet re-post these stories, so this important information can reach a broad audience.)
But all this costs money. We're now budgeting about $2,500 a month to pay former U.S. intelligence analysts for articles they write for us (on top of our regular costs of about $12,000 a month).
