Progressive and Independent Journalists Hold KCMO Panel on Media Reform at Local Food for the Needy Benefit, Oct. 7th

Edmund Burke, looking up at the Press Gallery of the House of Commons, said, Yonder sits the Fourth Estate, and they are more important than them all. Burke was referring to the power of the journalists, the power to rouse the people with the truth and thereby threaten the power of the King, the Lords and the House of Commons. But that was way back in the the seventeen hundreds.

Today I fear the media Kings and Corporate Lords have purchased and discarded the truth. They have replaced it with what lie is most profitable. Our democracy has been compromised; for we no longer have access to the truth. Instead the airwaves are filled with the newspeak of their owners designed to placate and entertain while robbing us of our money, our power and our dignity. That is, if we continue to allow them to do so!

Our meeting, Oct, 7th. will explore the impact of our ?paid for media? through the eyes of professionals who have somewhat eluded the corporate control. Each of our panelist will be asked to weigh in on the question: What role do you see media playing in the current and future political climate at the local and federal levels? This will be followed by a Q & A session.

Though our news print panelists work for corporations, neither Lewis Diuguid (KC Star) or Carolyn Szczpanski (The Pitch) should be lumped in with the talking heads that clutter our minds and our evening airwaves. Our other four panelists totally free from corporate control are KKFI's Tom Klammer and Sharon Lockhart and bloggers Blue Girl and Michael Bersin. We hope this discussion will shine the light on the need for Media Reform. We hope you all will join in the discussion... and the reform! The lie must be exposed!
