ANNOUNCEMENT OF A MAJOR RALLY TO SUPPORT OUR Federal Appeal TO KEEP THE TRAFFICWAY (SLT) OUT OF THE WAKARUSA WETLANDS!
Who: Haskell WPO (Wetlands Preservation Organization), Kansas Sierra Club, Jayhawk Audubon Society, University of Kansas EcoJustice, Save the Wakarusa Wetlands, Inc., KU Environs, INSSA (The KU Indigenous Nations Studies Student Association), and several other KU & HINU student organizations, and other Lawrence community and school groups will participate.Media are cordially invited.
What: Rally supporting the federal appeal to stop KDOT from building the South Lawrence Trafficway's through the sacred and irreplaceable Wakarusa Wetlands.
Why: This wetland is a crucial part of Native American heritage. It is one of the most bio-diverse places in the Midwest for its size. Many Indians consider it sacred ground. Our community needs to save this natural and historical treasure for future generations.
